Newcastle Under Lyme Golf Club – Local Rules

1. OUT OF BOUNDS (Rule 18.2)

Beyond any wall, hedge or line of white stakes defining the boundary of the course.

2. PENALTY AREAS (Rule 17)

All penalty areas are defined by RED stakes.

3. PUTTING GREENS

The practice green between holes 11 & 12 is a WRONG GREEN. Relief MUST be taken under

Rule 13.1.

4. ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITIONS including Immovable Obstructions (Rule 16.1)

a. All artificially surfaced roads and paths on the course and GUR marked with white lines;

b. The practice bunker between holes 11 & 12;

c. All course furniture including borehole cover and halfway house and surrounds;

d. IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS close to the putting green, e.g. sprinklers. Players may take

free relief under Rule 16.1b if the immovable obstruction is on the line of play and within two

club- lengths of the green AND the ball lies within two club-lengths of the obstruction.

5. MOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS (Rule 15.2)

a. 150 yard markers, red stakes;

b. black and white marker posts on 9th and 12 fairways (if a player’s ball hits a black and white

marker post the player may play the ball as it lies or replay the stroke without penalty);

c. small green and white posts in place to prevent players taking trollies between bunkers and

the putting green (a ball deflected by green and white posts may be played as it lies or replay

the stroke without penalty.)

6. SUSPENSION OF PLAY

A single continuous Klaxon note will be sounded to warn of danger and the immediate suspension of play. Two short Klaxon notes will indicate the resumption of play.

7. PACE OF PLAY

Players are expected to maintain a sensible pace of play and respect other players by not causing delay.

8. STAKE TREES (No Play Zones)

a. Staked trees, including trees with rabbit guards are No Play Zones (Rule 2.4);

b. Areas where small trees with ‘protective sleeves’ have been planted are No Play Zones (Rule 2.4);

9. HEALTH AND SAFETY

a. Green staff have priority on the course at all times.

b. All buggies users must report to the Professional Shop prior to commencing play. Buggy

users MUST comply with the Club’s Green/Amber/Red policy.

c. All incidents of a ball being hit Out of Bounds must be recorded in either the Professional

Shop or in Locker Rooms.

d. All golf trollies must be fitted with ‘winter wheels’ during the period 1st October to 31st

March.

10. ETTIQUETTE

a. All players must conform to the Club Dress Code;

b. To maintain the high standard of the course players must repair pitch marks on greens and

rake bunkers removing all footprints;

c. All mobile devices should be on silent when on the golf course. Only emergency phone calls

can be made/accepted.
